Beccs Edinburgh Tour - 1st - 3rd Feb 2002

Day One - all aboard!

With gales and rain lashing down, Beccs boarded the train up to Edinburgh last Friday for a weekend trip to take in the Six Nations match between Scotland and England. Ten girls made the trip along with coach Mickey Kelley - meeting up with our old friend, Spud and a new friend, Hamish McDucky.

The train journey was long but went in a flash as we sensibly partook in frequent refreshments leading to some community singing and some fun games, including the 'steal the hat' game at which the Beccs girls excelled.

We had the pleasure of meeting Carl with whom we shared a few special moments. The following joke is his and his alone - we cannot in any way share the glory for this one; Q: Where does Spot come from? A: 'Ackney

Bar-bum.. Getting shot of Carl we then had the good fortune to meet Andy, a charmer in the extreme. Fresh from public school in erm.. Sidcup. I believe the plum in his cheek would probably have served better shoved down his throat. Still it kept us entertained..'Yeah you've finished your drink now..' what did you say Gill?

The next question that faced the girls was what would happen if someone finished off three-quarters of a bottle of Jamesons in a couple of hours?

Hmmmmm....it was soon plain to see that poor Lara was being troubled severely by travel sickness both on the train and in the taxi to the hotel. Still a couple of hours in bed that afternoon soon had her back to tip-top form.

After a few drinks in the bar at the Murrayfield Hotel, our home for two nights, we wandered into town a short distance to no less than the Murrayfield Bar....bit of a theme here. We were soon in full flow with the Snitch keeping a sharp(?) eye out for any misdemeanors.

After a few games of 'Bunnies' and 'bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, whooooooo bouncy', things were getting rather cloudy. Things then became even more mystifying with the appearance of Micks friend, Hamish. [Was he or was he not wearing eye-liner? Will we ever know?]

A quick return to the hotel to grab some well-deserved tucker followed and then time to hit Edinburgh centre for some exploring.

Luckily Kelly managed to spot some awfully good-looking young England rugby players in a pub so we all piled in for a look. Later we decided to try out a bar which someone at our hotel had recommended, it was called Olivers and had a dance-floor and music going.

We'd been there for about 10 minutes when we began to get a strange feeling about the place and then the penny dropped - it was a gay bar!! Ha Ha. We still can't work out if this was supposed to be a stitch-up by the hotel person or not but it didn't really matter. We decided to hang around and it was a very good laugh, lots of good and cheesy music to dance to, along with the of course obligatory refreshments.

Highlights of the night had to include Mickey dancing with an old biddy who came around collecting for charity (was it a woman or a man?..) and credit to Jo who managed to pull a blind, gay man? And marks out of ten for the beige criss-crossy jumper....hhhhhmmmm none?
