Beccs Edinburgh Tour - 1st - 3rd Feb 2002

Day Two - Match Day

So the next morning dawned bright and breezy, unlike many of the Beccs girls who were suffering a little from the effects of drinking constantly for around 15 hours the previous day, walking home from the pub afterwards in the pouring rain and then doing their bit for Anglo-Celtic relations in the hotel bar.

It was at this point that a number of heinous crimes were committed. Two of our posse went off in the morning for a pleasant walk up to the Castle for a spot of sight-seeing. Four more ventured into town for a spot of 'shopping', whilst the remaining four slept, felt ill, got up, felt ill and erm.. felt ill. Gill was still a little tired after the exertion of walking 500 metres to the Murrayfield Bar and so took the opportunity to have a quick nap in a quiet corner. Bless.

This morning Spud arrived from Glasgow and met up with us. Spud left us this season to move all the way up to Scotland. A drastic move really, if she didn't like us that much we would have understood if she'd said she was going to play for Footscray - but it was nice to see her! After a couple of drinks in the bar we made friends with some Essex boys who did the honest thing and bought us a round.

Everyone was then warmed up and ready for the match which was of course Scotland vs. England, the first match of the 2002 Six Nations. We decided to get into the spirit of things with some pretty roses tattooed onto our cheeks whilst a little piper man inside the hotel massaged his bagpipes. Then onto the match.

The match is now just history as England won by loads of points to a wee three Scottish points. The girls were all pleased to see their rugby heroes, Billy Whizz Robinson, young Johnny Wilkinson (and of course big boy Jason Leonard for our Gillie) and it was awfully considerate of Billy Whizz to score his two tries in the corner next to us, so a thank you to him for that.
