14th Apr 2002 - Beccs Ladies lose to League Leaders Aylesford
Beccehamian Ladies lost out this weekend when they took on the in-form League Leaders Aylesford, and fell to a 63-0 defeat. Aylesford are currently top of the friendly Southern League and also the National League (Kent) Division 5 and are unbeaten in both competitions.
Up against such competent opposition, Beccehamians were slow off the mark and Aylesford were able to take advantage quickly of any mistakes. With some good rucking and quick balls out to the wings, it's easy to see why Aylesford are top of the League. Still Beccehamians dug deep and despite Aylesfords initial harsh onslaught, prevented them from reaching the line and scoring during the latter period of the first half.
With a good pep talk at half-time, Beccehamians came out determined to make some ground and attempt to get a score. Keeping more possession and beginning to string some passes together, Beccehamians were able to put together some good passages of play.
Playing only the third full match of contested scrums, Beccehamian ladies began to compete well in this area. New second-row Alex Tyson had an amazing first game coping extremely well in the scrum. Another good first game for Beccehamians was had by our new scrum-half Charlotte Boultbee, who organised ball out from the forwards very well.
Beccehamians were unable to make it over the line to score, despite upping the pressure and being close on numerous occasion. Aylesfords superior skills showed and the final score was 63-0 to the League Leaders. Still Beccehamians can take heart from this encounter as it was less than the 80-0 result at the beginning of the season when Aylesford played Beccehamians at West Wickham. It also takes Beccehamians to second in the friendly Southern League.
Beccehamian Ladies wish Aylesford the very best of luck in their new League next season - a well-deserved promotion.
