4th Sep 2005 - Beccs Ladies begin with a win 27-7 over Millwall Venus

With Captain Caz still on holiday it was a new season beginning under Vice Captain Claire Carver at Sparrows Den.

The game began in good spirit with Beccs forwards putting in some hard work and good tackles and the backs putting into practice some of the moves from the summer training pitch. The first try of the game and the season came from Kate Gosling who has moved out of the forwards over the summer into the backs. Good fast hands from Beccs left Millwall struggling to defend and Kate broke through to touch down.

Millwall made an attempt to come back with a fantastic run by Millwalls fullback but was tackled 5 meters from the Beccs try line by number 8 Sarah Henson with no following support from the Millwall team.

Beccs put in some good scrums with Jodie Wilson and Jordan Kenison making their debuts at prop. Second try came from a strong scrum enabling Sarah Henson to pick up and burst through before being tackled metres from the line. Great support from scrum-half Lou Dennis saw her collect the ball and score under the post. Third try came from full-back Hannah Tyson with a great run from midfield.

Millwall dug in deep and with two minutes to go before the end of the first half their number 8 ran in a try from a ruck on the 22 line, converting to make the score 15-7.

In the second half, great defence by the Beccs forwards stopped Millwall from getting a second try. Good handling skills from Beccs saw the ball out to captain on the day Claire Carver for her first try of the season.

Milwall kept attacking but were held back in their half of the field by the hard attacking Beccs side. The last try came from anther player making her debut, Sarah Le Prevost who saw a gap and ran in the try, which was converted by Kate Gosling taking the score to 27-7.

Our next match is a League match at HOME to Canterbury on Sunday 18th September.
