4th October 2007 - Beccs Ladies find it hard going away to Ashford

Beccs Ladies travelled away to Ashford this weekend with a few key players missing. Some quick early tries from Ashford proved that this was going to be a tough match and the Beccs ladies did well to continue to play with passion and determination.

Beccs were trying out a new set of backs and Ashford’s speedy centres gave them a good run for their money as Beccs ladies began to settle into their new positions. The Beccs scrum managed to hold their own although constant pressure from the Ashford scrum-half meant that it was difficult for Beccs scrum-half Lizzie to get clean ball out from the scrum.

Injury struck Beccs in the pack with second row Eran hobbling off, leaving Beccs with 14 players against the full Ashford 15. Ashford took good advantage of the overlap using their fly half’s kicking skills and their backs speed to score several more times despite determined chasing from Captain Caz and newcomers Ciara and Kerri.

Ashord went down to 14 players in the 2nd half which helped slightly and Beccs mixed it up a bit by kicking to their backs. Becss did well to keep keep Ashford in their own half for slightly longer but strong running and support in the Ashford pack meant that their experience shone through.

A second Beccs injury to number 8 Alison didn't help matters and it really was one-way traffic in the end to Ashford. Despite the score, Beccs Ladies continue to grow as a team and came off the pitch and ready for a hot bath and sing-song.

Well done to Jay on her return game, Abs for a great job filling in at loose head and to Ciara and Kerri on their debut games - not an easy one to begin with!

Our next match is away to Canterbury on Sunday 11th November in NC Div 2 SE-E - please come and support us!
