16th March 2008 - Beccs Ladies play at home to Ashford
Beccs Ladies took on Ashford Ladies in National II League today at Sparrow's Den in horrible rainy and muddy conditions. Playing with the wind in the first half Beccs put together some great passages of play and shocked the Ashford side who were
not expecting such a game from Beccehamians.
With great defence, the ladies kept Ashford from scoring despite some good runs through their strong forward pack. Beccs scrum held firm and created a good base from which to build from. Good kicking from Eran Miles saw one passage of play which resulted in a Beccs scrum and following kick from Eran and then disruption of the Ashford lineout and a repeat scrum and kick, travelling almost the length of the pitch.
At half-time the ladies went out with a fantastic 0-0 score, the first time this season!
The second half was much tougher for Beccs ladies playing into the wind and up the slight incline at Sparrow's Den. Some determined tackling, great mauling and good team play kept Ashford out but their fitness and organisation finally showed through and they were able to score with Beccs tiring.
The match finished 24-0 to Ashford but this was a really good Beccs performance and one to build on. When Beccs played Ashford back in November they beat Beccs 108-0 which just goes to show what a bit of training, team spirit and hard work can do!
