1st February 2009 - Beccs Ladies WIN 15-0 AWAY to Aylesford IIs
Warming up in a blizzard was tricky but Beccs ladies had a great match in icy conditions to win away at Aylesford with a try from Amy Pugh and two from Anita Oliver. The match began with lots of snow and wind but an excellent display of teamwork from Beccs drove Aylesford back into their own half and they were able to hold them there despite some good attempts from Aylesford to break the Beccs line.
Beccs kept up the pressure and were eventually rewarded with a try from number 8 Amy Pugh who ran in from the twenty-two after a good team effort to get the ball out to the wing. The good communication from Beccs continued throughout the first half and good lines prevented Aylesford from crossing back into the attacking half. Only Aylesford’s strong defensive work prevented the score from being higher than 0-5 at half time.
After the break Beccs returned to the pitch a little quieter and a less organised giving Aylesford the opportunity for some good runs. Fortunately they were still unable to find a way through Beccs defence. Anita Oliver sealed the win with a couple of fantastic runs deep infield, first whilst playing at full-back and then from centre, resulting in two great individual tries. Despite a scrappy last ten minutes, Beccs kept their spirits up and held on for a final score of 0-15.
The match was a great example of Beccs developing team work with improved cohesion and much enthusiasm. Particular mention goes to Katie Lunnon who was voted Back of the Match, Hayley Brennan for Forward of the Match and Jay Sperry who was voted Players Player.
