10th October 2004 - Beccs ladies lose 32-29 away to Thanet Wanderers
Beccs Ladies just missed out this Sunday in a closely contested 11-aside Division 3 SE-E match at Thanet Wanderers. With Beccs ladies arriving late they were slow to get into gear and the big Thanet pack were able to run in two unanswered tries in the first fifteen minutes. Centre Beckie Edney was then able to get Beccs on the scoresheet with almost her first touch of the ball where it was shipped out wide with some quick hands and Beckie darted through to score. Unfortunately Thanet came back, totally dominating the scrum and were able to cross for another making the half-time score 15-5.
The second half was much tigher with both sides taking turns to score. Wendy Stevens made her season debut and managed to run in three speedy tries from out wide on the wing. Vice Captain Caz Waugh converted two of them to put Beccs in the lead. Thanet kept in contention with another couple of their own with the lead continually changing. Beckie Edney put some great forward play to good use with another fast run through the Thanet defence to score.
With the clock ticking away the match was really anyones and Thanet broke through a massive gap in the Beccs defence to score under their posts to just take the match.
Congratulations go to Thanet for a great forward effort and a friendly match. For Beccs this was an enourmously enouraging match with the pack learning continually and the whole team benefiting from putting into practise the moves learnt on the training field. A welcome return to play was made by Hannah Tyson playing at fullback for the first time in around a year and a half.
Our next match is away to Footscray Ladies on 24th October in Division 3 SE-E.
