24th Oct 2004 - Beccs ladies lose 12-0 away to Footscray
Sorry this match report is late - I wasn't at the match but here are some things I've heard..
Beccs Ladies lost out this Sunday 12-0 in a feisty Division 3 SE-E match against our local neighbours Footscray Ladies. With both teams being evenly matched it was a tough game where the forwards out in a tremendous effort and did a stirling job in the rucks and mauls. The backs also worked hard tracking down and tackling the speedy Footscray backs. Beccs did some good work winning the ball whilst Footscray were very organised in winning it back so it was an open match.
Footscray's first try came from a penalty awarded to Beccs on the Beccs 5 metre line where a mistake from Beccs allowed them to steal the ball and go in for the score. The second try was a perfectly executed number 8 pick-up from the back of the scrum. (Ed: Becky the Footscray No. 8 in no way resembles a prop for anyone who is confused!)
Caz Waugh made a fantastic break from close to the Beccs 22 but was hauled down close to the try line. Unfortunately the great support work by Claire Hamon led to a knock-on and turn-over ball. The team missed Michelle Pope and her kicking skills (still away on police training) but a big positive from the match was a great debut performance from Maurs Hill.
The referee awarded two yellow cards to Footscray - very unusual for the refs in our league - one was for a high tackle and the second for offside infringements.
Forward of the match was Tracey Roper, Back of the match was I think Hannah Tyson (please tell me if this is wrong) and Players Player was Stephanie Cleough.
Our next match is at HOME to Beckenham on 31th October in Division 3 SE-E.
