12th Sep 2004 - Beccs ladies lose 32-15 away to Aylesford
A high spirited Beccs 11 made their way to Aylesford last Sunday for the first game of the season, a friendly against our oldest competitors. With the game split into three 20-minute periods both teams were able to try out a few new moves and get their hands back in.
It's fair to say that Beccs didn't play to their full potential in the first third of the match and were in ratherrusty form from the long off-season break. With a shortage of pace in the Backs for Beccs, Aylesford were able to run in 2 breakaway tries from their own 22! 1st-3rd Score 12-0
The 2nd-3rd saw 100% commitment from everyone with the backs linking together some excellent long passes and putting into play some set piece moves. The forwards cover was excellent with some sound pod work and this combination saw Amy Ruocco run in a debut try for Beccs on the wing. Steph Cleough soon followed to break through two tackles to get her first try for the club and Beccs led the 2nd-3rd until the last 2 mins when Aylesfords pace saw them run in their 3rd of the afternoon. 2nd-3rd Score 5-10
In the final 20 mins Beccs continued to play well with some great tackling and strong defence. Aylesfords fitness began to show and their fresh legs ran in two more great tries. Never beaten to the final whistle Beccs Kept their heads up and continued to play some excellent rugby and from a penalty deep inside their 22 saw a Beccs attempted try held up. The second attempt was successful with the ball shipped to the backs for Carolyn Waugh to run in her first of the season. 3rd-3rd Score 10-5
An excellent start to the season with fitness and skill levels showing improvement. The commitment and attitude of everyone both on and off the pitch was fantastic.
Our next match is home to Sidcup on 26th September in Division 3 SE-E.
