23rd Jan 2005 - Beccs ladies lose 0-17 at home to Footscray Ladies

Beccs Ladies seemed to have their minds elsewhere this Sunday in a hard and ferocious match against the league leaders Footscray Ladies. Not really back in the groove after the Christmas break Beccs struggled against the more organised team.

Under pressure from the Footscray forwards Beccs had to work hard for the ball and spent the beginning of the match struggling for possession only to panic and throw it quickly away again. Beccs were able to string some passes together and use some possession but it was Footscray who were able to score almost under the posts with the try converted.

Some big hits were put in with great work from both packs with some knocks and bangs on both sides. Beccs began to play some more rugby with centre Beckie Edney having some runs through midfield and the occasional balls out to the wingers Claire Hamon and Wendy Stevens were used to good advantage. But it was a day for knocking the stuffing out the each other in midfield and long passages of play went from side to side with no break to catch your breath.

Footscray began to show their dominance and skill with two more well worked tries from the Beccs twenty-two and it was a credit to Beccs defence that there weren't another couple with one being held up on the line. Beccs Ladies need to put in some hard work and thought on the training field if they are to finish the season in a more positive manner!

Comedy moment of the match goes to Footscray Number 8 and Captain for a wonderful demonstration of how not to catch a ball! Thanks go to Footscray as always for a great game and for being good sports. We wish them good luck for the rest of the season and hope that their walking wounded are all okay.

Our next League match is AWAY to Beckenham on Sunday 20th February but we have a friendly match on Sunday Feb 6th against Cardiff University Ladies Team whilst on Tour in Cardiff.
