11th Jan 2004 - Beccs lose 24-55 home to Thanet Wanderers in Div 3 SE-E.
Beccehamian Ladies had a tough start to the New Year in Division 3 SE-E where they went down 24-55 at home to Thanet Wanderers in an 11-aside league match. Playing on a sticky pitch it was hard going for Beccs ladies who seemed to be showing the effects of too much Christmas pudding.
With most of the Thanet team looking like front-row players, Beccs found it hard going to compete up front and Thanet were able to work their way slowly up the pitch and then punch their way through the defence to score.
Beccs ladies managed some good passages of play to recyle the ball and were able to push it out to the wings where their speed could run around the Thanet defence. Two tries in the first half from centre Steph Kaleta and wing Alaina Allen were scored out-wide in this manner.
Beccs were desperately starved of possession and their third try came from a break-down in midfield with Thanet losing the ball and No.8 Sarah Henson kicking on to score. The last try for Beccs came from winger Claire Hamon making her debut on the wing today and showing some great determination and speed to break through to score. Two conversions were scored by Alex Tyson.
Beccs still hang onto the top spot in the League but will need some hard work to stay there. The next match is at home to Ashford where hopefully Beccs will get a chance to play 15-aside for the first time in the league this season!
Beccs ladies next game is home to Ashford in Division 3 SE-E on Sunday 18th January.
