15th Feb 2004 - Beccs lose 22-5 in a friendly against Ealing Jades.
Beccehamians Ladies travelled over to Ealing on Sunday for a friendly match against the recently formed Ealing Jades team. With quite a few new ladies joining the team the idea was to get some match experience for some of the ladies who haven't been able to play in the Division 3 SE-E matches.
Ironically after being forced to playing 10-aside matches in the league due to opposition numbers, Beccs ladies found themselves with just 11 players available for the game with bugs attacking 3 of the girls on the morning of the match. Eager to play, the game still went ahead with Ealing lending two players to make the Beccs side up to 13.
Beccs began the first half on the back foot and were slow to organise to cover the 2-man overlap. Ealing were a very well drilled side and with most of the possession were quick to capitalise with some really good set-pieces which resulted in four great tries leading to a half-time score of 22-0.
In the second half, match fitness began to show with Ealing beginning to slow and Beccs managed to find their rhythm to play some rugby. With defence improved Ealing were not allowed through and Beccs only try came from fly-half Carolyn Waugh who made a break from the 22 down the centre of the pitch to score.
Two new Beccehamians were making their debut on this occasion with (Alaina's friend) Louise Hunte making some good yardage out on the wing and Natasha Williams getting stuck in with some good tackles against the Ealing forwards.
All in all a game very much of two halves but of great benefit to both teams. Beccs wish Ealing all the very best for the future, a big thanks for the hospitality and we look forward to seeing them in the National League next season.
Beccs ladies next game is HOME to Beckenham in Division 3 SE-E on Sunday 29th February.
